In this four-hour workshop we analyze the relationship between western science and yoga. We examine what science is and is not and what questions it can answer. We also discuss the process of experimental design, methods of data collection, and how data can be analyzed and communicated within the scientific community versus within the media. We break down several journal articles in tandem with corresponding excerpts from William Broad’s news publications and book, “The Science of Yoga,” in order to learn how to decode scientific literature and translate it into a class theme. Lastly, we discuss how the yoga community can become involved in scientific research, thereby elevating the quality of yoga research.

This is a two-part event. You must attend both the Saturday and Sunday sessions. Come prepared to take notes. All other supplies will be provided.

Upon registration, participants will be sent links to selected required readings in preparation for the course.

This event is appropriate for all students and teachers of yoga and other mind/body practices.

Skype attendance is available.
