Monday Mantra: Mad
There are many guises for intelligence. One part of you is gliding in a high windstream, while your ore ordinary notions take little steps and peck at the ground.
Conventional knowledge is death to our souls, and it is not really ours. It is laid on. Yet we keep saying we find ‘rest’ in these ‘beliefs’.
We must become ignorant of what we have been taught and be instead bewildered.
Run from what is profitable and comfortable. Distrust anyone who praises you. Give your investment money, and the interest on the capital, to those who are actually destitute.
Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious. I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now on, I’ll be mad.
- Rumi
Over the last 60 days, this Rumi poem has found me via three separate sources. Each time I read it, I would think to myself: "Yes, I want to do that. This makes sense." I even made the last few sentences my phone wallpaper so I would see it each day during Spring for inspiration. The poem found its way to me again this past week accompanying the most recent in a series of large life lessons. To honor my heart, vision, and voice, I must act on Rumi's "dare." I am ready. From now on, I'll most certainly be "mad."
I am passing the poem on to all of you as you experience your Spring/Summer spirits soaring.
I send this special brew to the teachers of The Perri Institute for Mind and Body. I send this sentiment to the newest teachers graduating from our yoga pedagogy course and to all graduates everywhere who are facing new adventures ahead in life and learning.
Be bewildered and "mad" and go forward with fearlessness and compassion.
